THE SURGERY:

Abdominoplasty (or the so called lipectomy of the abdominal wall) removes extra fat from the medium and lower part of the abdomen. The incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen, similarly to the one in Cesarean section, and in some cases around the navel. In the case of mini abdominoplasty, the navel is not corrected. In the case of sagging muscles, plastics is also performed for the abdominal wall muscles. The operation lasts from 2 to 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Abdominoplasty is suitable mainly for people who, except for the presence of subcutaneous fats in the belly area that could be removed by liposuction, also have excessive skin in the belly area which is removed in this operation.

RESULTS:

The result from abdominoplasty is exceptionally enduring and clearly visible, and it may last for years if the patient takes the necessary care for his/her figure and health. The scars are lasting and will not disappear; however, they strongly fade over time.

BEFORE THE SURGERY:

Immediately before the surgery, the necessary medical tests are performed; you have a conversation with and are examined by the surgeon. 10 days before the surgery, you must stop the intake of aspirin and herbal teas, vitamins and blood thinners. 8 hours before surgery, you must stop smoking, you should not take any liquids and food.

RISKS:

Risks are higher for smokers, when compared to non-smokers. A partial necrosis or hypertrophy of the scar is possible. Liquid may also deposit - in some cases it flows by itself through the incision, while in other cases a secondary surgical intervention is required. Infection is another risk.

RECOVERY:

Immediately after the surgery, the following may occur: temporary bluish colour to the skin and swelling, numbness, pain, bleeding, fatigue, as these are stronger in the first week and most often last for up to 2 weeks. An elastic bandage is worn in the first weeks. You may go back to work in 2-4 weeks, you may perform heavy physical activities in 2 months.
